La Anita Rainforest Ranch Tour
This tour is an opportunity to get to know and enjoy the La Anita Rainforest Ranch! Visit our organic medicinal plant and vegetable garden to learn about unique local foods and medicinal herbs. Hike a rainforest trail that winds by crystal streams, rich vegetation, and provides the opportunity to see many species of birds including toucans, scarlet macaws, and hummingbirds. Enjoy a relaxing tractor-pulled cart tide through the macadamia, tropical flower, and cacao plantation where you will learn about how we work in harmony with nature. Participate in an interactive cooking class to learn some of La Anita’s secret recipes, and enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared with foods grown in our organic garden.

Exploring Colonia Libertad - Horseback Tour
Visit Aracelly’s house to enjoy a typical Costa Rican Caribbean-style lunch cooked over a wood fire. Rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, Caribbean chicken, patacones, and salad will please your palate! Lunch is followed by a leisurely horseback ride through town and surrounding farms to “Las Vegas” – the local bar – to enjoy a well-deserved Imperial with the locals.

Horseback Ride and Hike to the Cerro Frío Waterfall
Start off for the Cerro Frío on horseback from the town of Colonia Blanca. Head up the mountainous pathway guiding your horse through the beautiful farmland. After a relaxed ride, continue on foot through lush Cloud Forest, keeping an eye out for roaming Congo monkey troops. Emerge from the forest to see the immense waterfalls perfect for taking a cool dip before returning back to the farm.
Note: This is a challenging tour recommended for experienced hikers only.
Location: Colonia Blanca (20 minutes from La Anita)
Start at La Casona, to visit the small museum and hear the unique history of the Rincón de la Vieja national park. Take an extended hike through the park where wildlife is abundant – see white-faced monkeys, coatimunti, and morpho butterflies. Pass by volcanic fumaroles and mud pots and arrive at warm thermal waters heated by the volcanic activity underground.

Volcanic Activity Center Tour
The impressive volcanic activity of the Miravalles volcano is an incredible natural phenomenon. You can observe fumaroles, bubbling mud pots, and hot springs at this active vent on the volcano. See incredible waterfalls and swim in the cool pools at the base of the falls. Return to relax in the thermal waters or immerse yourself in therapeutic mud straight from the volcanic vent.

Let the stress go - and relax in the natural environment of Yoko's thermal water reserves. A restaurant, wet bar, and five thermal pools await you at the base of the Miravalles volcanoes. The more adventurous visitor can explore the nearby forest -home to birds, butterflies, and other animals that inhabit the earth and air surrounding the old growth trees. Recreational fishers also welcome!

Experience what life is like for the hundreds pf species of birds and other animals that live in the dense rainforest canopy that surrounds the Miravalles Volcano. Start the adventure with a rainforest hike with the chance to view toucans, hummingbirds, and rainforest mammals including the pizote and danta. Art Gallery of Tony Jimenez
Visit the Art Gallery and workshop of famous Costa Rican sculptor Tony Jimenez. View the impressive sculptures created by this artist, who uses only found wood to create the pieces. Indulge in a fresh cup of coffee above the gallery, and return to La Anita in time to see the sunset beyond the volcanoes.

Rincón de la Vieja
Las Bromelias Thermal Waterfall Hike
Arrive at the Rincón de La Vieja Las Bromelias Eco-lodge base station and venture into the dense rainforest to see 150 year old trees, hundreds of species of bromeliads, and countless tropical birds. Learn about medicinal plants along the path and see leaf-cutter ants in action. Take a secret pathway up a rainforest stream to arrive to a pool fed by a thermal waterfall and a natural spring waterfall. The mix of hot and cool water creates the prefect temperature to never leave this magical place.
Serious hikers may attempt a day-long trek to the edge of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano crater. This option is recommended only for experienced hikers and is only available during the dry season (February-April).

Rincón de la Vieja – Las Pailas hike
Witness the impressive volcanic activity on the slopes of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano. Bubbling mud pots and crystal blue streams provide great photo opportunities. The incredible biodiversity of the park makes animal sightings common and the waterfalls are the perfect place to take a cool dip after a challenging hike. Experienced hikers can hike to the volcano crater on a challenging course over rocks and boulders. Recommended only for very serious hikers who must start out early in the morning to complete the round-trip trek.
